What is Rekodi Pesa?
Rekodi Pesa is a WhatsApp-based finance bookkeeping service built for Tanzania. You record your income and expenses by sending simple chat messages in Swahili or English, and the service logs them, categorises them, and sends you summaries — all in Tanzanian Shillings (TZS).
Do I need to download an app?
No. Rekodi Pesa runs entirely on WhatsApp, which you almost certainly already have. There is nothing to install, no account to create, and no passwords to remember. Just save our number and send your first message.
Is Rekodi Pesa free to use?
Yes — getting started is completely free. You can record transactions, get summaries, and use core features at no cost. We may introduce optional premium features in the future, but the core bookkeeping experience will always be free.
What currency does Rekodi Pesa use?
Tanzanian Shillings (TZS) is the primary currency. All your reports, balances, and summaries are displayed in TZS by default. This is purpose-built for individuals and businesses operating in Tanzania.
Can I use Swahili to record my transactions?
Absolutely. Swahili is fully supported. You can type things like "Nimetumia 8,500 chakula" or "Nimepata mshahara 800,000" and Rekodi Pesa will understand and log them correctly. You can also mix Swahili and English freely.
What kinds of transactions can I record?
You can record any income (mshahara, biashara, pango, nk.) or expense (chakula, usafiri, bili, nk.). Rekodi Pesa automatically categorises transactions based on your description. You can also add custom notes or categories.
How do I get a financial report or summary?
Just ask. Type "Nionyeshe matumizi ya wiki hii", "Show me this month's income", or "What is my balance today?" and you will receive a formatted summary instantly. Reports can be daily, weekly, or monthly.
Is my financial data secure?
Yes. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. We apply strict access controls and conduct regular security reviews. We never sell your data or use it for advertising. Your records are yours.
Who can see my transactions?
Only you. Your transaction data is tied to your WhatsApp number and is not visible to other users. Our staff access data only when strictly necessary for support or security, under confidentiality obligations.
Can I use Rekodi Pesa for my small business (biashara)?
Yes. Rekodi Pesa is ideal for sole traders, market vendors, shop owners, freelancers, and any small business operator in Tanzania who wants a simple way to track income and expenses without complex accounting software.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. You can request full deletion of your data at any time by messaging us on WhatsApp or sending an email to privacy@rekodipesa.com. We will process your request promptly as per our Privacy Policy.
Does Rekodi Pesa work without internet?
Rekodi Pesa requires a data connection to receive and process your WhatsApp messages. However, because it uses WhatsApp, it works on any data plan — including low-bandwidth connections common across Tanzania.
Is Rekodi Pesa affiliated with WhatsApp or Meta?
No. Rekodi Pesa is an independent service that uses the WhatsApp Business API. We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Meta Platforms or WhatsApp.
